This scene was shot in Venice, Italy in 2005. The photo came in second place in Flickr's Science Group Competition here. A discussion and critique of it can be found here.

The light coming from the windows wasn't as bright in the original shot, so we upped that and then gradually desaturated the rest of the image so that the farther away from the windows one looks, the less saturated the objects are. We also slightly upped the saturation of everything the light touches, including the reflected part in the water, so although it's not an evenly split b&w/color shot it's based on the same idea.
